Oshtemo, MI

How They Found Us

These Oshtemo MI homeowners decided to get a break from winter by attending the Kalamazoo Home Expo.

Main Problem

Shade is no place to grow grass, and that was a big problem. Even though these before photos were taken in winter, you can tell there are a lot of trees creating a lot of shade in summer. And grass just won't grow in shade. They also just really wanted an update to their landscape, to give their landscape some added curb appeal.

The Project

Like with many of our project, we started with a 3D landscape design, providing these Oshtemo homeowners with a glimpse into what their property could look like. We were able to design not only shade-tolerant, but shade-thriving masses of perennials and native shrubs and trees for beauty and lower maintenance. We used a turf substitute in the front yard, NoMo Lily-Turf, which grows beautifully in the shade and only requires one mowing per year. Since we were working with large areas, we used a lot of groundcovers, that over time, will spread and fill in empty areas. This project also had the addition of low-voltage landscape lighting, providing ambient lighting for their entertaining during the summer months, as well as added security while they are away.
