Find a landscaping company you like, ask them some questions, then decide if you want to hire them or not. It can be nerve-wracking to hand your Grand Rapids property over to a landscaping company, especially if you don’t know their business well.

This blog post can give you questions to ask that can make you feel more comfortable with the hiring process.

These are the top 5 questions you should ask any Grand Rapids landscaping company before you hire them:

1. Are You Qualified?

Ensure the company has the necessary staff to complete your project. If it involves design work, the company’ll need to have a designer. Check their qualifications, certifications, and insurance to measure their reliability and capability. Ask for references and read some online reviews from sites like Houzz or Facebook. Find out how good their service really is.

2. What Does ‘Full Service’ Mean?

It can be different because not every company’s the same. Meanings can range from design and build or full-service maintenance. You can probably find this information on their website, but it can be nice to have someone say it so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Sometimes companies use subcontractors to help get you what you want, but is that alright?

3. Do You Use Subcontractors?

Many do, and it’s perfectly fine. Ask who it is they’ll be working with and what parts of the project will and won’t require a subcontractor. Make sure it’s clear which company’s responsible for what parts and what happens if something goes wrong.

Don’t forget to check out the main company’s employees too.

4. Does Your Company Conduct Background Checks?

Who’s on my property? It’s a fair question any homeowner can ask when a bunch of people are walking around their house. You can ask what type of background checks they run and if they have anyone with an offense on their record still working for them.

The materials they work with are also important to ask about.

5. Do You Use Sustainable Practices and/or Materials?

Redo your home, save the world! Sustainable practices protect the environment while still giving your home a great look. One of the most important sustainability questions is: do they use native plants? How many do they use and are they drought tolerant?

It may not seem like the most important question, but it’s a good one to know. Keep your land natural and have sustainable practices and materials on it.
